This exhibit includes two scrolls from the Suzette Morton Davidson Special Collections. 'The Garden of Self-enjoyment' scroll depicts a fascinating panorama of Chinese gardens surveyed by an old scholar from the midst of his bamboo grove. Although the scholar's garden is classical Chinese, the artist is a 19th Century Japanese painter named Kishi Gantai (1782-1865). 'Flowering Plants Namekawa collection' scroll depicts approximately 60 flowers on stems with leaves by anonymous artist(s) of the Edo period, Meiji era, called the Mito School, in the mid to late 19th Century.
