Arroyo Calabasas, California 91367

One day I saw a sign that said Japanese Monster. I decided I needed to find it.

This was the second sign I saw. I followed it and headed down Burbank Boulevard.

I almost gave up before I saw the third sign. It seemed like it took me forever to reach it.

This was the fourth sign I saw. It pointed at a church. I didn't see any Japanese Monster.

You can see the sign pointing more clearly at the church in this photo.

Or could it be pointing to this house next door to the church?

Here is another shot of the church. It was suspiciously devoid of Japanese Monsters.

I considered that perhaps the sign had been maliciously turned upside down by people trying to divert me from this treat. The treat = Japanese Monster. So I went in the other direction. I found a grade school. I know that monsters like children. But it looked very empty. I was starting to feel very disheartened.

Then it occurred to me that perhaps the monster was hiding in the Arroyo Calabasas, right next to the church, that I had to do a little legwork on my own, not rely only the signs to tell me *exactly* where the monster was hiding out. So I drove around the church, down a side street that led me to a barren field where the fence separating the human world from monster hideout/storm drain was low enough for me to clamber over. I looked in the wash. I didn't see any monster, but I did see a trail of slime.

More monster spoor.

The slime trail continued for a ways. But I didn't see any monster. But why would a monster be "hiding" in plain view under the hot valley sun in the middle of summer? Such a monster would have been eliminated by natural selection already. This monster was hiding somewhere, somewhere clever. Possibly under the bridge where Fallbrook crosses over the Arroyo. So I walked to the bridge.

More monster spoor, or perhaps detritus of a monster feast.

This is a rent a bin that was in the middle of the path I was on. I checked inside, but the monster was not in there.

This another possible monster getaway route, near the bridge. I think it might have left by this route.

Here I am coming up on the bridge. I don't see any monster, but it is dark.

I got a closer look at the bridge here. But I only saw an overturned shopping cart, undoubtedly the work of the monster. Just trash and carnage left over.

This is the parking lot behind the Japanese Monster church. I think there might have been some people playing cards with the Japanese monster inside, but I couldn't break past security.

This is the closer look at the parking lot behind the Japanese monster church. There is an ambulance and a trailer in this picture, both very suspicious looking. Some friends of mine convinced me that the Japanese Monster signs were actually a code name for some kind of film or television production and that there were never any monsters to begin with. I didn't like that conclusion, but there it is.
