Konichiwa & Greetings!

It's almost MAY again, and the Japan America Society of Greater Austin (JASGA) is happy to invite the Austin Community and JASGA members to the third annual Satsuki Matsuri (May Festival), taking place Sunday May 6th, 2007, at Zilker Botanical Garden, 2220 Barton Springs Road, from noon to 5:00 pm.

Performers will include Austin Taiko, Okinawa Tomonokai Dance Group, Hanayagi Japanese Dance Academy, Still Point Aikido Studio, UT Kendo, and Yagyu Shinkage Ryu Heiho. Between performances watch a team of book and paper artists demonstrate shodo (calligraphy), sumi-e (brush painting), bookbinding, origami, and suminagashi (paper marbling), and see outstanding horticultural displays by the Austin Bonsai Society and Ikebana Study Group, and the Texas Bamboo Society. For younger children, there will coloring pages of Japanese cultural images.

Airline tickets, courtesy of Continental Airlines, will be auctioned off at the festival, and an array of Japanese-related items will be offered in numerous door prizes: gift certificates to Japanese restaurants, bamboo, and gift items. As always the festival is free and open to the public; food and beverages will be available for purchase. The parking lot at Zilker Botanical Garden fills up quicky, and overflow parking is available on Stratford Drive, by Zilker Park or underneath the Mo-Pac.

Please help us make Satsuki Matsuri a success forwarding this email to family and friends, your children's teachers, and colleagues.

Thanks so much!
