This tasting focuses on two very drinkable dark English ale styles. Brown Ales are medium-bodied reddish-brown beers - malt accented with a nutty character, a gentle fruitiness, and low bitterness. Alcohol is moderate, a maximum of 5%ABV. Porters are darker and stronger and exhibit a tremendous variability of characteristics within the style. Porter flavors range from chocolate and cream, to smoke and whisky, to licorice and molasses. This is a great tasting for dark beer lovers to deepen their appreciation for these fine ales and for dark beer novices to discover their often subtle complexities.
