Starting at the ripe age of five, Janna sang along with some of the greats-- Barbra Streisand, Karen Carpenter, Stevie Wonder...in her teen years, Geddy Lee, Steve Walsh, Neecie Williams, Steve Perry, and Pat Benetar. Okay, not on stage, but her bedroom, record player, and hairbrush quickly transformed into a big concert hall.

Fast forward, as she began developing as a songwriter, Janna became heavily influenced by female rockers Sheryl Crow and Grace Potter, and countless national and indie bands. "There is so much raw talent out there...it may not be what you hear on the radio, but if you dig deep, you'll be certain to connect with bands and artists that speak to your mind and heart."

Self-taught, genetics (her mother is a classical singer, her father an Arabic oud player and singer) and a soul as big as the moon are the key ingredients to what make Janna the singer she is. Being a yoga instructor in her daily life certainly opens her senses to the real-world lyrical concepts her latest CD, The Human Race, is filled with. And even with over 2,000 live shows under her belt, while confident, Janna also has humility...she recognizes that her talents are a gift, one that she never takes for granted. Each show is significant to Janna, whether there are five people or 500 people in the audience.

The best testimonial was from a fan who said, "Um, quite frankly, I just came in here to use the restroom on my way to the Metro. Two beers later, I found myself calling my brother to tell him I'd be home at 11PM."

Janna's breadth of experience has taken her all over, from political parties to anniversary parties (her band played for a party where then President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton were in attendance), coffee houses to concerts (Janna recently opened up for Meg Hutchinson in Stevensville, MD), and vineyards to outdoor festivals. She has even performed for final relaxation during various yoga classes!

Janna performs a mix of her own material and adaptations of songs by her favorite artists and songwriters. Whether you see Janna by her lonesome for an intimate, storytelling show, as the duo alongside husband and electric guitarist, Rob Santos, where Rob's edgy, melodic playing complements the sweet and soulful timbre of Janna's voice (you should hear their cover of Pink Floyd's Hey You), or performing high energy rock with the band, (including Santos on guitar, bassist, Howard Haughery, and Terry Burcham on drums) from start to finish, you'll understand what the Janna-buzz is all about. It's about the music, providing a sense of community, connection, feeling, laughter, positive energy, and FUN.
