Recognized for his "rapturously heartfelt" playing (Washington Post) Jan Vogler has rapidly established himself as one of the best cellists on the world stage. Winner of the 2002 Echo Award (Germany's equivalent of the Grammy) for "Best Instrumentalist", he is the modern representative of the German cello tradition which goes back to Emanuel Feuermann and Julius Klengel. He lives in Dresden, Germany and New York City, combining the roots of his traditional musical education with a contemporary style of interpretation.

Jan Vogler's distinguished career has included concerts with orchestras such as Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Radio Orchestra Berlin, Dresden Staatskapelle, Radio Orchestra Hannover, Kammerphilhamonie Bremen, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Saarbrücken Radio Orchestra and BBC Ulster Orchestra Belfast. He has worked with some of the world's most pre-eminent conductors such as Hans Vonk, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Peter Schneider, David Robertson, Marin Alsop, Thierry Fischer and Christoph Poppen. An avid recitalist and chamber musician, Mr. Vogler has performed extensively in many of the world's great concert halls with pianists Bruno Canino, Louis Lortie and Andrea Lucchesini and with violinists Mira Wang and James Ehnes.

His most recent recordings include the just released Cello Concerti by Barber, Korngold, Bürger (Berlin Classics), Schumann and Fauré Piano Quintets (Sony Classical) with James Ehnes, Mira Wang, Naoko Shimizu and Louis Lortie and Mendelssohn Cello Sonatas (Berlin Classics) also with Louis Lortie. Mr. Vogler's impressive discography on the Berlin Classics label also includes many highly acclaimed titles. His recording of the Schumann Cello Concerto and world premiere recording of Jörg.

Jan Vogler is artistic director of the Moritzburg Festival and the Fürstenberg Classics Festival. New York and Dresden are both home to Mr. Vogler, which he shares with his wife, violinist Mira Wang and their two children.

Mr. Vogler plays a 1712 Joseph filius Andrea Guarneri cello.
