Jammin Java presents The FIFTH Mid-Atlantic Band Battle. Everyone had such a killer time at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Battle that we're doing it all over again! We are searching for the best bands of any genre from up-and-down the East Coast to prove that they have what it takes to win $2500 CASH, your own headlining show at Jammin Java, Studio time @ Cue Recording Studios w/ producer Jim Ebert and Gift Certificates from Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center for the top 4 bands.

Static Cinema is the best you've never heard! This brand new rock sensation started late summer 2009 and has just recently become a hit to the local VA music scene. Static Cinema consists of five members ranging from ages 16-19, Jon Cresswell, Noah Moore, Danny Slovich, Stephen Goodrick, and Zack Ticer. Their mission is to share positive music that turns your frown upside down and helps make your day a little better.

Lightspeed Rescue, a 6-piece funk/hip hop group from Northern Virginia, is here to change that. LSR infects their audiences with their original blend of alternative hip hop, incorporating thick beats, jazzy harmony, and funky sounds, so you just can't help but dance, plus they create a positive environment where everyone feels comfortable having fun and being themselves. The group draws heavily from their influences, such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Outkast, but the talents and individual styles of each unique band member define the basis of LSR's sound. Look out for LSR over Summer 2011. They'll be releasing their EP Celebration, and be sure to check out one of their many performances.

While new to the DC music scene, the Understudies have garnered attention from venues and music lovers alike. What started as a mellow singer-songwriter duo took on a new, heavier drive when The Understudies became a four-piece, allowing them to pursue a more aggressive sound while maintaining their powerhouse vocals. In 2010, The Understudies recorded "Overnight Live," a live EP which is currently available on iTunes. They are currently recording a full-length album, from which the first single, "Remember The Night," is already available for download.

Combining soulful vocals, Indie Pop guitar, and pumping drum machines, Bethany and the Guitar has been a hit with listeners from the start. Nearly every song off her self-titled debut EP hit the "hot music list" at well known indie music site, thesixtyone.com, and her presence online at Myspace and LastFM has been growing steadily since the late February release. Behind the whole project was the inspiration of her older brother Kurtis Parks, who produces and co-writes much of the material. Bethany and the Guitar has a contagious new sound, blending all the best parts of Colbie Caillat, Brooke Fraser, and Ingrid Michaelson.
