JAMES VALENTINE
THE POWER AND THE PASSION…
STANDARDS FROM THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN SONGBOOK

Sunday, 25 March at 3pm The James Valentine Quartet show, The Power and The Passion: Standards From The Great Australian Songbook, explores classic Australian pop songs, just as the jazz greats of the past did with the American popular song. These are beautiful and evocative arrangements of tunes like Cold Chisel's Flame Trees, Divinyls’ Pleasure and Pain and Russell Morris' The Real Thing.

James Valentine is best known as the Afternoon presenter on ABC Local Radio 702. As a saxophone player, James has played with the bands The Models and Wendy Matthews. James presents his unique take on the times, accompanied by the superb photos of Tony Mott, with Gary Daley on keyboards, Peter Kohlhoff on bass and Cameron Reid on drums.
“I’m very excited to get a chance to bring this show to the great theatre at the Riverside,” said James Valentine. “This is a show full of our best loved Australian tunes and some great stories about those days when every pub had a band and there was a good chance that band would be Cold Chisel!”
Riverside Theatres has announced a dazzling series of musical performances and concerts as the first instalment of their music program. BIG NOTES will feature a diverse range of sounds and rhythms, embracing pop, Broadway tunes, rock, classical, & blues.
