View the best short films/videos (30 minutes or less) from around the globe in this juried competition from the James River Film Society. As finalists in this competition, these shorts exemplify the art of film … and film as art. Noted filmmaker Roger Warren Beebe, who is also a faculty member at the University of Florida Gainesville, will judge and award prizes totaling $2,000.

The James River Film Society and its April Festival have brought major figures of innovative moving images to Richmond for 18 years, including Stan Brakhage, the Brothers Quay, Ray Harryhausen, Karen Aqua, Charles Burnett, Martha Colburn, William Wegman, Ken Jacobs, Albert Maysles, and Peggy Awesh. The James River Film Society is a volunteer-run, nonprofit dedicated to the art of film and film as art. Find out more about how to get involved with the Society.
