James Carl: "Take-Outs" (1995-ongoing)

JAMES CARL is well known for his arresting works that invest mass-produced, functional objects such as take-out food containers, car tires, vending machines and home appliances with a powerful, iconic presence. Engaging both traditional and contemporary artistic methods and materials with a distinctive new vision, he challenges the viewer to look with a fresh eye at the everyday artifacts of consumer culture.

James Carl is currently the L.L. Odette Visiting Artist in Sculpture in the Department of Visual Arts at York University, which is sponsoring this free public lecture. York University is located at 4700 Keele St. For more information, call 416.736.5187.
