The WorldBeat Center will be celebrating Christmas Jamaican Style, with performances by Harford Folk and Culture; a group of resounding singers and energetic dancers from Sal La Mar, Jamaica sent to San Diego by the Jamaican Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller as cultural ambassadors of Jamaica.

WorldBeat Cultural Center is known in Jamaica for its outstanding work with Reggae and other cultural music of this Caribbean Island. In fact, executive director Makeda Dread Cheatom, has just recently won the Caribbean Cultural Preservation Award from the Jamaican and Caribbean Community for her outstanding work with Caribbean Music.

This will be the second time the Harford Folk Group has performed at the WorldBeat Cultural Center and San Diego colleges and other San Diego venues.

Valerie Murray, acclaimed Jamaican storyteller and publisher of Talawah Journals, will be telling infamous Anansi stories. Anansi is a very famous story character; originating from African lore, known by storytellers all over the world, and is especially loved in Jamaica and the Caribbean.

WorldBeat Cultural Center invites the public to go deeper into the Caribbean Culture and learn the history before Bob Marley.

There will be a showing of the renowned documentary Blood and Fire. Blood and Fire is a film about the roots of Reggae music and the history of Jamaica starting in the 1940s and ending in present day.

There will also be a feast of tasty Jamaican foods, Christmas Black Cake, the delicious Jamaican Christmas drink Sorrel and variety of Jamaican candies for sale.

This Jamaican Christmas will be celebrated for all cultures and all families!
