With a voice that can silence the rowdiest of crowds, Jake Mattison is someone whose experiences are worth listening to. His songs inhabit the sort of real life that includes love and loss and addiction and desire.

Inspired by the mid-60s Northern Soul of The Radiants, the early folk-soul albums of Terry Callier and artists such as Paul Simon, John Martyn and Nick Drake, Jake began to set out his stall as an artist and songwriter and whilst his influences are many and varied, there is no doubt that Jake is his own man. “Ultimately I would like to be written about respectfully and earn enough to live off,” Jake says. “I want to make good music, the sort of music that makes people go, ‘Wow!’ like I did as a kid, but I don’t want for much, I’m not a big car guy, or a big house guy. What’s important is to write your songs the way you want to write them and earn some till while do the right thing…” Sounds reasonable, doesn’t it?

"Writes wonderful, heartfelt songs... strung out in the ether somewhere between Tim Buckley and Michael Kiwanuka." Rob Fitzpatrick, The Guardian

"Imagine Adam Duritz from Counting Crows after a night gargling sand and you come somewhere close to the depth and richness of Mattison's vocal. When this man sings about sorrow, you believe him." Clash Magazine
