The Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under, now entering its eighth year, is an internationally renowned annual cycling race attracting leading professional Eurpean teams. The 728-kilometre race will have six stages and run in January next year.

Premier Rann says the routes will take riders through some of the State's most beautiful countryside, including the Fleurieu Peninsula, Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills and the cityscapes of Adelaide.

"The Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under is undoubtedly Australia's premier cycling event. It attracts around 100 of the world's best road cyclists to compete for the coveted Jacob's Creek Yellow Jersey," he says.

"The 2006 route will no doubt challenge the cyclists, test their fitness and provide some great viewing spots for the 470,000 spectators who line the streets each year to cheer on the cyclists.

"I expect there will be fierce competition among towns and suburbs as they dress up their streets, shops and homes for the title of 'Best Dressed Town'

First held in 1999, the Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under is a world-class road cycling race staged over a six-day duration, featuring stage starts and finishes in key locations throughout Adelaide and regional South Australia.
