I just went to see the play in Savannah and wasn't happy with the speakers being in the way on the corner seats. Other people weren't happy as well alot of people moved thier seats thanks GD it wasn't sold out you may want to check that for the next show that going to ATL.

*Playwright JD Lawrence may just very well be the best kept secret in theater. Considered the “new face of urban theater,” Lawrence has written and produced 12 stage plays, but he’s been doing it since 1991.
“I started my first stage play in 1991,” he said. “‘Bless Them Anyhow’ was the name of the stage play. It was based on some events that were going on. I turned it into a book that’s out now called ‘Behind the Cross’ and I expanded on the story more.”

JD Lawrence Urban Theater’s New King of Dramedy

DETROIT, Feb. 9 – Urban theater mania returned this weekend to the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts. Despite the inclement weather African American theatergoers attended the four-day performance of the hit stage play Rumors. Also in attendance for the first time, Caucasian patrons came out in groups to witness JD Lawrence the man frequent patrons of the genre, staff and media are calling Urban Theater's New King of Dramedy. Rumors has to be one of the few productions that consistently started and ended on time said one staff member at the Music Hall. The two hour and ten minute performance was cleverly written, unpredictable, entertaining, hysterical and ethnicity free. A winning combination that has not been witness on this circuit before. The show-starred Family Matters Darius McCrary and Telma Hopkins from Half and Half. Also added to the mix is platinum recording artist Leytoya Luckett who sings like an angel the songs, Torn and How Do You Love Someone. Written and directed by actor/comedian and singer JD Lawrence. The New York Telly Award winner and lead character or should I say character’s, played an eye popping five characters (Mr. Clarence the show’s narrator, Ms. Mary the usher from hell, Sunshine the outrageous chef, Ashad the Indian landlord and Rev. Dollar). George Smitt and his wife Denna from Detroit said they didn’t even realize until after the performance that Lawrence was the same person playing all five parts on stage in full costumes throughout the night. "They were all different from scene to scene the way they talked, walked and sang. It was like watching Eddie Murphy in the Klumps live" said Evelyn Rivers. The show-stopper of the evening was a hilarious duet between JD Lawrence as Sunshine and Leytoya Luckett as Michelle singing Bad, Bad, Bad that left the audience falling out of there seats. Several staff members and patrons at the music hall said so many plays come and they’re all predictable, there all the same mostly trying to be like Tyler Perry of course, but falling short. Mr. Lawrence genuinely has his own style of comedy and definitely a place in the hearts of Detroit and Toledo theatergoer’s black and white. Dale Murray from 94.1 who had a walk on cameo said "JD Lawrence's Rumors is the must see stage play of the year! Filled with thought provoking dialogue and witty one-liners the show has more twists and turns than the German autobahn. While oftentimes compared to Tyler Perry, JD Lawrence is a writer/director/actor and singer with his own voice".
