INDIANAPOLIS-Parents and caregivers will discover ways to keep kids safer in cars at the IU Automotive Safety and Safe Kids Indiana Seat Inspection on Monday, May 14, 2007, at the Indianapolis Zoo parking lot. The event runs from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

About 90 percent of car safety seats are not installed or used correctly. This drive-through clinic will demonstrate the proper use of child safety seats. More than 40 certified child passenger safety technicians from across the state will be on hand to inspect safety seats and answer questions. This unusually large clinic is possible because the technicians are in town for the Indiana Injury Prevention Conference.

Safety seats will be given to families that need them, as supply allows. To participate in the clinic, a parent or guardian must bring both the child and a vehicle to the zoo. No appointment is needed for families, and interpreters will be on site for those whose first language is Spanish.

The last time this event was held at the Zoo, more than 150 belt-positioning booster seats were distributed to Indianapolis families.

For details, call IU Automotive Safety at 317-274-2977, or visit the Zoo’s website at indianapoliszoo.com.
