ITALIAN MAESTRO CONDUCTS ‘ITALIAN BAROQUE’

The prominent Italian conductor Giancarlo De Lorenzo and Italian mandolin virtuoso Cecilia Loda will be featured guest artists at Sinfonia Toronto’s next Masterpiece Series concert on November 12 at 8 pm in Glenn Gould Studio. Maestro De Lorenzo will conduct a program of Vivaldi, Durante, Respighi and Alceo Toni.

Giancarlo De Lorenzo has conducted all the major orchestras of Italy and has appeared as a guest throughout Europe. He has conducted in Mexico, Brazil, Finland, Germany Russia and the United State,s and has made numerous recordings.

Mandolinist Cecilia Loda has performed with I Solisti Veneti, I Solisti di Perugia, Orchestra di Brescia, the Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico of Vicenza, the Orchestra della Magna Grecia, the Chamber Orchestra of Istanbul, the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, the Hermitage Orchestra of St. Petersburg and many others. She has recorded several CD’s for the Foné label and has appeared in major cities in Italy, the Netherlands, France, Bulgaria, Germany and Spain.

Acclaimed as “a world-class ensemble” by Germany’s Russelsheimer Echo, Sinfonia Toronto is one of Canada’s finest chamber orchestras. Its repertoire includes all the major works for string orchestra from baroque to contemporary, and it has premiered many new works. It is based at CBC Glenn Gould Studio, where many of its concerts have been recorded for national broadcast. Other recordings include a CD of works by Mendelssohn, Shostakovich and Khachaturian; a world-premiere recording of the newly discovered J.S. Bach aria ‘Alles mit Gott,’ released by Analekta on iTunes; and the JUNO winner Flanders Field Reflections, a Marquis Classics (EMI) CD of music by John Burge.

Sinfonia Toronto’s Music Director Nurhan Arman has conducted throughout the world to great critical acclaim. His upcoming international engagements include performances with the Moscow Philharmonic, Belgrade Philharmonic and Mexico’s UANL Monterrey Symphony.
