Cecilio & Kapono to headline “Island to Island for Haiti” benefit concert
An outpouring of community support will allow 100 percent of the proceeds to support the victims of the Haiti earthquake

HONOLULU – (February 2, 2010) – Hawaii legends Cecilio & Kapono will be joined by Amy Hanaiali`i, Jimmy Borges and Ledward Kaapana at a benefit concert at Hilton Hawaiian Village on Friday, February 12. The artists are contributing their performances to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake of January 12, 2010.

“Island to Island for Haiti” will feature an evening of island entertainment under the stars at resort’s lagoon-front Great Lawn, complemented by food samplings provided by area restaurants and hotels. The non-stop entertainment also will include Raiatea Helm, Taimane Gardner, Afatia Thompson and the ladies and gentlemen of Tihati Productions. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the evening will climax with a spectacular fireworks display at 8 p.m.

A suggested donation of $20 will be collected at the door and food booths will serve samplings for just $3 a plate. Beer, wine, water and soft drinks will be priced at just $3 each. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund.

The benefit concert was the brainchild of Jerry Gibson, area vice president of Hilton Hawaii, who personally made calls to fellow hoteliers to join the effort. Participating with food stations will be Halekulani, Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio, Hyatt Waikiki, Kahala Hotel & Resort, Marriott Waikiki, Moana Surfrider-A Westin Resort, Sheraton Waikiki, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, The Royal Hawaiian and Hilton Hawaiian Village.

“It certainly has been difficult to hear the tragic stories emanating from Haiti. Each reported incident is one of horror, hopelessness and grief,” said Gibson. “I felt that we should and could do something as a community to help out this ravaged island,” he continued.
In addition to the hotels, other local companies donating products and services include: American Express Travel Services, Anheuser Busch, Audio Visual Technologies, Bates-Lee Advertising, Clear Channel Radio, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Constellation Wine Co., Cox Radio, Design Logix, Electric Pencil, Group 70 International, Hale Koa Hotel, Hawaii Care and Cleaning, Hawaii Explosives & Pyrotechnics, Inc., Hawaii Prince, Hilton Grand Vacations Club, Hookipa Enterprises, Honolulu Advertiser, Honolulu Recovery, Honolulu Star Bulletin, Honolulu Refuse Company, International Convention and Event Services, The Ilikai, Jet Graphics, Kona Brewing Company, Lima Keawe, MC & A, Premium, Inc., Obun Printing, Sprint Hawaii, Team Clean, Southern Wine and Spirits, SpeediShuttle, Tihati Productions and Waikiki Beach Activities.
