Buzz Alexander, a Carnegie Professor of the Year, wrote "Is William Martinez Not Our Brother?: Twenty Years of the Prison Creative Arts Project." The book describes the University of Michigan's Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP), a pioneering program that provides university courses, a nonprofit organization, and a national network for incarcerated youth and adults in Michigan juvenile facilities and prisons. PCAP enables individuals to withstand and often overcome the conditions and culture of prison, the policies of an incarcerating state, and the consequences of mass incarceration.

Joining Alexander in discussion will be:

● Natalie Holbrook, director at the American Friends Service Committee prison project, has a very thorough knowledge of incarceration and incarceration issues in Michigan.

● Ronald Rohn, a returned citizen (formerly incarcerated), is the artist who created the book cover image.

● Michelle Southers, a returned citizen (formerly incarcerated), has participated in poetry workshops, is currently in the PCAP Linkage Exhibition, and appeared in the first number of the Michigan Review of Prisoner Creative Writing (PCAP project).
