The first Thursday of each month we teach the Mindfulness of Breathing meditation; the third Thursday is the cultivation of loving-kindness (metta bhavana). These two practices provide a balanced basis for the development of insight, clarity, and compassion. Suggested donation $5 (all welcome)

The SFBC is part of the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO), a non-sectarian, non-monastic movement emphasizing spiritual friendship, meditation, and compassion. Founded in England in 1968 by Urgyen Sangharakshita, FWBO draws inspiration from the whole of the Buddhist tradition and is based in central teachings that are common to all the main schools.

We are located in the Mission district near 21st and Valencia streets. Our community is dedicated to supporting the development of spiritual friendship among those who wish to experience the benefits of Buddhist practice and believe that it can make a constructive contribution to the modern world.
