The basics of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) covering definitions and characteristics will be introduced in this four quarter unit course. Emphasis will be placed on incidence and prevalence trends, and characteristics associated with language/communication, cognition/neurology, social skills, and behavior. Students will also be taught the implications for program planning and service delivery. Course completion requires five hours of fieldwork. Upon successful completion of the course, students can petition to transfer credit to the credential or MA programs for Education with their transcript showing four quarter units and a letter grade.
