Sophia Bekele, CEO of CBS International, Inc., will discuss her work to promote Internet connectivity in Africa and other emerging economies. She will talk about how the Internet governance policy divide impacts the world's digital economies. Sophia will also discuss some of the internet based initiatives she is leading such as the Continental Integrated Information Network (CIIN) and DotAfrica.
Sophia has served as policy advisor to various international organizations, including ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), United Nation's Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Information Communications Technology (UNICT), and Global Alliances for ICT Development (UNGAID), where her vision for building the next generation of the information and Internet society crystallized. Sophia is currently working with the Ethiopian government and other governments of Africa to promote and implement the use of Internet connectivity in Africa.

This event is open to the public without charge. It will be held in rooms 6209-6211 at Golden Gate University, 536 Mission Street, San Francisco.
