The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) is a new music collective comprised of daring and virtuosic young musicians and composers from around the world. ICE exists to create, perform, and advance the music of our time. Through innovative programming, commissions, multimedia collaborations, and a commitment to performing in non-traditional venues, ICE redefines classical music as it brings together new work and new listeners. The first of this three concert series, 'Roots & Return,' features guest conductor Jayce Ogren, and traces connections between recent musical works and the classic pieces that inspired them. The program presents Boulez's 'Memoriale (...explosante-fixe...originel) (1985),' Fujikura's 'ice (2010)' and 'returning (2006),' Adams' 'Son of Chamber Symphony (2007),' and Webern's arrangement of Schoenberg's 'Chamber Symphony No. 1 (1906/1923).'
