Frederick, MD -- In celebration of America Recycles Day 2011, Marc Stachowski, Deputy Director of Public Works/Operations and Gerald Palm, Superintendent of Sanitation, will hold a press conference on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 9:00AM in the visitor's parking lot at the Department of Public Works.

The agenda is as follows:
1. Update on the once a week trash collection pilot program in the Whittier Subdivision
2. Update on the once a week recycling efforts( condos and curbside) in the Whittier, Walnut Ridge and Rocky Pointe subdivisions
3. A "Sort and Show" demonstration - a bag pulled from a recent City trash collection will be opened to see if any recyclables are included. A calculation of savings in tipping fees will be calculated had recycling of appropriate items occurred.

"As a City we must travel on an intelligent and sustainable path. Since curbside recycling began in the City of Frederick, we have witnessed an increase in the type and number of materials that can be spared from going to the landfill. We can only imagine what the future holds for our community." said Mayor Randy McClement.

The Department of Public Works is located at 111 Airport Drive. In the event of inclement weather, the press conference will be moved to the DPW Training Room.
