“Inspiration & Industry: American Women on the Home Front,” a new exhibition that shows women’s roles in wartime efforts during WWI and WWII opens at Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46 St and 12 Ave) in Manhattan, on Tuesday, March 1.

The exhibition is comprised of more than 20 propaganda posters that were issued during WWI and WWII. During both wars, posters were used to persuade Americans at home that they had a responsibility to support war efforts. The depiction of women in the posters shows the changing roles of women between the two wars, from modest participation in WWI to active service during WWII. All posters are from the collections of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

The exhibition is presented as part of a month of special programming and events at Intrepid that will salute women in honor of Women’s History Month. The exhibit will run from March 1st – March 31st.

The exhibit is free with the price of admission to the museum. For more information, visit www.intrepidmuseum.org. Images are courtesy of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is proudly supported by Bank of America.
