David Meltzer, devorah major, and friends join up to celebrate the late activist's life and poetry

A committed political radical, Marilyn Buck was imprisoned for over thirty years for her revolutionary activities -- she succumbed to cancer at the age of 62 shortly after being released from prison in August 2010. While in prison, Buck contributed articles on women in prison, solitary confinement, political prisoners and related issues to Sojourners Magazine, Monthly Review, and other journals and anthologies. She received a PEN American Center prize for poetry in 2001. Her translations and introduction to Cristina Peri Rossi's poetry appeared in State of Exile, Number 58 in the City Lights Pocket Poets Series.

Inside/Out is a selection of Marilyn Buck's finest poetry, a tribute to her indomitable spirit, revolutionary intelligence, and to the transcendence of her poetic vision. On Wednesday May 16, 7pm David Meltzer, devorah major and Graciela Trevisan will celebrate the release of this searing, soaring collection with a reading at City Lights.
