Industrial Jazz a Go Go! CD Release Party
April 21, 2006

Los Angeles, March 2006 ? The Industrial Jazz Group (IJG), an adventurous and critically acclaimed LA-based acoustic jazz ensemble featuring the music of composer and pianist Andrew Durkin, will release its fourth official studio album (Industrial Jazz a Go Go!) this April on the Evander Music label. The group will celebrate this release with an April 21 performance at the Barnsdall Gallery Theater in Los Angeles, in a concert presented by local promoter Rocco Somazzi.

The long-awaited follow-up to The Star Chamber, Industrial Jazz a Go Go! brims with jump-cut homages to a diverse array of classic popular music figures (Ray Charles, Perez Prado, Elmore James, Lucky Millinder, the Del Vikings, and many others), while simultaneously showcasing some of southern California's most amazing (if unsung) talent, including Aaron Kohen (bass), Joe Berardi (drums), Damon Zick (saxophones), Cory Wright (saxophones), Jason Mears (alto sax), Brian Walsh (tenor sax), Phil Rodriguez (trumpet), Kris Tiner (trumpet), Shaunte Palmer (trombone), and Robert Jacobson (guitar). Seeming to prove Tom Bowden?s point that ?Durkin writes music that people who think they hate jazz would like,? the material on Go Go! can perhaps best be described as a kind of avant-garde party music.

Formed in the spring of 2000, the IJG is one of the few large independent jazz ensembles on the scene today. It has been a persistent force in Los Angeles for six years now, and during that time it has also performed throughout California (San Diego, Bakersfield, San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Truckee, and Petaluma), as well as in Nevada, Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. It has received numerous grants from the American Composers Forum, is supported by the NEA and the McKnight Foundation, and has been heard on NPR and hundreds of radio stations around the world. Write-ups on the group have appeared in The LA Weekly, The SF Weekly, The Wire, The North Bay Bohemian, The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Boston Herald, and numerous other publications.

Rocco Somazzi has been a crucial force in LA?s jazz underground since his original Bel Air club opened several years ago. Somazzi has since gone on to host performances in various locations throughout the city, with the Barnsdall Gallery Theater series being only one of his latest ventures. According to Los Angeles Magazine, ?The best jazz club in L.A. is wherever Rocco Somazzi handles the booking on a given night.?
