About the 24th Annual Holiday Concerts for the Kids Concert Series For over 20 years, in keeping with the holiday spirit of giving, WXRT presents a special benefit concert series to collect toys for local children?s hospitals, and warm winter clothing for the Snug Hugs for Kids Winter Clothing Drive. Each year, listener response to this event is overwhelming! Since the first Holiday Concerts for the Kids in 1985, WXRT has collected over two tons of toys and coats and hundreds of thousands of dollars! The Holiday Concerts For The Kids have become a special event for XRT listeners, as well as the artists that have performed, including Sonia Dada and Robert Plant who personally donated $10,000. Past Holiday Concerts For The Kids have been highlighted by memorable performances by Sting, The Pretenders, They Might Be Giants, Poi Dog Pondering, John Fogerty, Bryan Ferry, David Bowie, Melissa Etheridge, The Indigo Girls and KT Tunstall, just to name a few.
