Join author and art historian Saloni Mathur for a discussion of her critically acclaimed new book India by Design: Colonial History and Cultural Display. For the first time her book carefully maps a series of historical events, from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day, that made India fashionable to Western audiences. Her discussion includes an examination of India as represented in department stores, museums, exhibitions, painting, and picture postcards of the era. Mathur is assistant professor of art history at the University of California, Los Angeles. A book signing follows.
