The Incredibly Strange Picture Show begins its 4th year of screenings at the Alliance Francaise de San Francisco with a Halloween double feature celebrating the unique vision of legendary genre directors Larry Cohen and Tobe Hooper. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of its release (almost to the day) ISPS will present Cohens Q: The Winged Serpent, an exciting blend of monster movie and police thriller that places the flying Aztec serpent-cock god in modern day New York city; the cast features such 70s stalwarts as David Carradine, Candy Clark, Richard Roundtree and Michael Moriarty.
The second part of this Halloween double feature changes scenery to the deep bayou of Louisiana where Tobe Hoopers Eaten Alive is set. Neville Brand stars as the crazed hotel owner who kills at-will and feeds his victims to a giant alligator who never ceases to be full. The follow-up to his directorial debut Texas Chain Saw Massacre Hooper continues his meditation on the bizarre practices of rural denizens, again based on a true story (Joe Ball aka The Alligator Man). Co-written by Kim Henkel, who would go on to pen each sequel and remake of his Texas Chainsaw script, and featuring Mel Ferrer, Carolyn Jones, Marilyn Burns, Stuart Whitman and Robert Englund. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the films release.
Admission is always free to an ISPS screening; donations are however welcome. Doors open at 7:15 PM. Come early for drive-in Coming Attractions prior to the screenings. Plus free candy and brand new ISPS t-shirts will be on-sale for $10 each as designed by San Francisco artist Andi Sumpter.
