Ever picked up a snow globe, shaken it vigorously and imagined the world within the glass coming to life as the snow gently settles to the bottom?

Shaker, created by Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak, invites the audience to enter a magical place. Full of alluring beauty and mystery, the dancers scatter small white flakes into floating clouds, complete with gusting winds.

Pinto and Pollak, acclaimed creators of Boobies and Oyster (both previously performed during Dance Umbrella festivals) are known for their ability to weave fantasy, drama and comedy in their work. They use a seamless blend of contemporary dance, mime and acrobatics, along with extraordinary costumes and props to create their highly imaginative choreography.

The eclectic musical score for Shaker combines Chopin, Purcell, Gavin Bryars and Arvo Pärt, with Swedish folk music, and songs from the fifties performed by Japanese pop artists.

Shaker is an enchanted world rich in make-believe and interspersed with dark humour and poetic imagination.

‘Shaker…is so beautiful and touching, that it hurts, like a poem that strikes the right chords. It is definitely one of their best theatrical-dance works ever.’
