Inaugural Shinsedai Cinema Festival - The New Generation Japanese Film Festival August 20, 2009

The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in cooperation with the Toronto J-Film Pow-Wow presents the inaugural Shinsedai Cinema Festival - in the JCCC's Kobayashi Hall - featuring the Canadian premiere of 24 of the top films from some of Japan’s hottest young independent filmmakers.

Two films have already received international acclaim:
• Masahide Ichii’s Naked of Defenses, was awarded the Pusan International Film Festival’s Top Award along with the Grand Prize at Tokyo’s PIA Film Festival.
• Yasutomo Chikuma’s Now, I…, proclaimed “a revelation” at London’s Raindance Film Festival, provides insight into some of the serious social problems facing Japan.

The Festival is programmed by author, film historian and MidnightEye.com co-founder Jasper Sharp and Toronto J-Film Pow-Wow founder and editor Chris MaGee.
