The photographic exhibition by Melissa Grainger, IM/EXPRESSION from South Africa, is on view at the Buffalo Museum of Science until September 2, 2006. An artist’s reception will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2006 from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M. and the public is welcome. The photography show is part of the Museum’s Going Ape Exhibition.

The imagines depict the lives of some of the 450 Chacma baboons that reside at C.A.R.E., the Centre for Animal Rehabilitation & Education, as well as the wild troop that has taken refuge at the sanctuary during the four-year regional draught. They represent both the photographers IMPRESSIONS of a very special sanctuary in South Africa and the EXPRESSIONS of the sanctuary’s unique inhabitants. Through these images, the photographer hopes to relate the complexity and intelligence of these amazing primates.

As you view them, you find yourself wondering what the baboons are thinking and how they are feeling. If you could understand their language, what would they tell you? And most intriguing, is how we so easily recognize ourselves in their EXPRESSIONS.

This exhibition is by funded in part by the New York Foundation for the Arts. Assistance was also provided by CEPA Gallery, along with support from the Arts Council of Buffalo and Erie County and the Buffalo Museum of Science. Half of all sales from this exhibition will be donated to C.A.R.E.
