In this emotionally provocative rock opera, composer-writer-performer Imani Uzuri explores the journey from isolation into meditative stillness that leads to the exuberant triumph of self-expression. Backed by a full ambient band with strings, Her Holy Water: A Black Girl's Rock Opera is a lyrical, often humorous unique-concert-experience. Told through drum and bass arias, transformational ballads, and soulful rock, the performance also incorporates coming-of-age memories from Uzuri's youth in rural North Carolina and anectdotes from her nomadic travels around the world. Her Holy Water is a celebration confirming that even the minutiae of a Black Girl's life is epic and universal. "Uzuri never fails to mesmerize audiences," says Time Out New York. Presented as part of the Alternate Routes Sacred Circle Café.
