This is a show of paintings, gouaches and drawings curated by Rachel Koper. The works often share a clean illustrated style, humor and extensive narratives. Kober is painting revisionist American history pop paintings -each is titled with a different state's name. Uhlir's oceanic oil paintings envoke mysteriously powerful atmospheres. Hernandez paints and uses collage and drawing elements to create dramatic scenes. This series is inspired by Telenovas aka Mexican Soap operas. Hernandez finds the dramatic tension inspirational and over the top funny. Martinez develops his illustrative style into a wry political commentaries dealing with super highways, urban development and over consumption among other things.
