ICP Orchestra April 9, 2007

The ICP (Instant Composers Pool) Orchestra has been performing since 1967. Its founders, Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink, have only occasionally expanded the lineup to a fullsized orchestra. More often it's compacted into an octet or nonet. Individuals and instrumental combinations have come and gone, as happens when eccentricity and genius sort out their required ministries. The ICP has character and a sublime ability to play together, with each other, against each other. Tremendous gamesmanship, backed by solid talent and a deep appreciation for obvious and abstract music, the hidden energies and how to let them sing. There is not another band on earth quite like this one.
