All About Jazz - New York dubbed him ``Musician of the Year`` for 2007, alongside Dave Brubeck, Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus and Sonny Rollins; The Guardian once called him a ``21st century Art Tatum`` and just recently he was awarded the prestigious European Jazz Prize for European Musician of the Year. Italian pianist Stefano Bollani received his diploma in piano in 1993 from the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory of Florence at the age of 15, met mentor Enrico Rava a few years later and flung himself into jazz. He rose to direct his Orchestra del Titanic to making records and performing tribute-shows to pop music of the past, right up to winning the Premio Carosone, usually awarded to singers, in September 2003 in Naples. Besides his `historical` collaboration with Rava, he has played with countless others, including Richard Galliano, Gato Barbieri, Pat Metheny and Phil Woods, and appeared on the world`s most prestigious stages (from Umbria Jazz to the Montreal Festival, from Town Hall in New York to the Scala in Milan).
