Regional college and university faculty members are invited to a one-day colloquy intended to help them sharpen the skills needed to teach in three dimensions.

“Harnessing the Power of Hybrid and Online Teaching and Learning,” a system-wide Penn State teaching colloquy sponsored by the University’s Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, takes place Wednesday, May 11. The colloquy will be held simultaneously on both sides of the state, in the west at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and in the east at Penn State Harrisburg.

“Online and hybrid learning are the fastest growing segments of higher education, but they require us to rethink how we teach and learn,” says Wayne Anderson, the instructional designer
in Penn State Behrend’s Center for eLearning Initiatives. “The three dimensions of face-to-face, hybrid and online delivery provide tremendous potential to extend the classroom and create new paths for students to succeed.”

In faculty presentations, panel discussions and brief Great Idea sessions, the colloquy will address teaching and learning strategies, effective instructional design, course development, use of technology, and assessment and evaluation strategies. Additionally, there will be two keynote speakers: Alexandra Pickett, associate director of the SUNY Learning Network, will talk at Penn State Behrend, and Susan Ko, author of Teaching Online: A Practical Guide, at Penn State Harrisburg. Each address will be simulcast to the other campus.

The registration fee for instructors not employed by Penn State is $90. Registrations are due by Monday, April 25, and can be made online at http://behrend.psu.edu/colloquy. For additional information, contact Anderson at 814-898-6657 or [email protected].
