Hurricane Ike Damage Tour by Boat of Kemah Boardwalk & Clear Lake, Texas Marinas

Hurricane Ike made landfall in Galveston, Texas in the early morning of Saturday, September 13th, 2008. By 0600 the eye had passed over Kemah and Clear Lake. In its wake, millions of dollars of yachts were destroyed, sunk or deposited high and dry like children's toys. Many of the waterfront restaurants in Seabrook and the Kemah Boardwalk were devastated. This 1½ hour cruise will inspect damage from Hurricane Ike that occurred at the Seabrook waterfront, Kemah Boardwalk and Clear Lake Marinas. It is hoped that an in depth analysis and discussion of building code, marina construction and yacht mooring techniques will help reduce future devastation from hurricanes in the area.

To those who feel that offering tours of devastation is distasteful… Our hearts go out to those injured and who lost everything in Hurricane Ike. We employ over 50 people in the Clear Lake area who have seen their homes flooded, families displaced and income jeopardized. Our company has lost thousands of dollars in canceled cruises and yet we will continue to carry staff on payroll to clean up our marina and yachts. Our crew needs the work and since we are in the “celebration” business, we will be going through hard times. We can all learn from the damage inflicted by Hurricane Ike and the best way is to see it first hand and foster discussions on what can be done differently next time.
