Anwar Ibrahim (Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, 1993-98) is respected for his stance against corruption and his management of the Malaysian economy during a period of financial crisis. He is currently a visiting professor in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

The annual Severyns-Ravenholt Lecture honors the late Majorie Severyns Ravenholt, a longtime foreign correspondent in Asia.
