HSW Lecture: Celebrating the Albert Small Collection May 17, 2009

Join us for an informative talk celebrating the Albert Small Collection. The collection comprises rare late 18th to early 20th century maps and prints of Washington, D.C., collected by Albert Small. Six active researchers, including collection curator Dr. James Goode, will discuss the importance of private collectors in preserving primary historical resources. The program will include presentations on a survey of the Washington, D.C. site before it was officially selected by George Washington, and a map penciled by a British soldier while resting in Bladensburg. Discussion will center on these and other maps in the Small Collection, but will also include other unique documents and artifacts such as George Washington’s letters.
