On January 27th 2010, American historian, activist, author, playwright and professor Howard Zinn passed away at the age of 87. A legend among progressives and social critics, an inspiration for generations of war resistors and labor organizers, Zinn was best known for his book A People's History of the United States. In it, he tells the history of the United States through the eyes of its victims... the oppressed, the incarcerated, the underdogs.
In honor of Zinn's life work as well as all those lesser known figures in American history, we will gather to read/perform great speeches and text from his book. Names like Mother Jones, Elizabeth Gurly Flynn, Bill Haywood, Malcolm X, Ron Kovic, and Cindy Sheehan are among those who we might read from.
