Howard Hawks - The Ultimate Professional September 22, 2012

For a long time Howard Hawks was considered to be just a director of consummate entertainments, a craftsman comfortable with thrillers (SCARFACE, THE BIG SLEEP), comedies (BRINGING UP BABY, HIS GIRL FRIDAY, MONKEY BUSINESS), westerns (RED RIVER, RIO BRAVO) and action/romances (TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT, ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS). Now, however, Hawks is firmly a member of the cinema pantheon, a director who loved making films about professionals and strong women who gave as good as they got.
