Howard Fineman

Newsweek Senior Editor, Washington Correspondent and Columnist; author, The Thirteen American Arguments: Enduring Debates that Inspire and Define Our Country

Debates to Inspire, Define and Perpetuate Our Nation

Fineman has been bringing thoughtful, thorough reporting of political events to the nation for many years, both in Newsweek and on the airwaves. Now, he looks back into US political history to discover and share the debates which defined and inspired our forefathers to create and maintain this democracy, what was once known as a national experiment. The US constitution addressed questions such as Who is a person? What is the role of faith? What are citizens allowed to know and say? Who has jurisdiction, our local communities, or our national government? Fineman says the day the US ceases to argue about these questions, is the day we cease to be.
