Strategies for structuring a book with maximum appeal

Everyone has a book in them, but do you know 1) how to get it down on paper and 2) make it an enjoyable
read for your target audience?

Most books suffer from the dual problems of focus and flow—is your book focused on one strong idea and does that idea flow through the entire text?

This 4 hour workshop is about writing your book. It is not about marketing your book, even though knowing what your target market wants to read (and not read!) is definitely a part of the writing process. It is designed to teach you how to structure your book from the initial outline through the various editing processes a book must go through to make it ready for publication.

This workshop will be conducted in two parts. Part one is about getting the book set up correctly. You will learn how to:

pinpoint your focus
identify what your audience needs and wants to hear about in a book like yours
build an outline based on the focus and the inventory of writing you already have
take your focus and work it through the entire book
structure the various elements of your idea (the focus) logically so that the elements flow from one to another seamlessly.
Part two is about the revision process. Here you will find out how to:

identify the flaws in your manuscript once it’s written
take your book apart and restructure it so that it reads even better.
think like a content editor
act like copy editor to get the cleanest manuscript possible
You are invited to bring your writing with you. If you have a completed manuscript or even one that’s half-way done, bring that. If you just have a bunch of notes (or reports, or white papers, or newsletters, or even transcripts from teleseminars) bring them too!

This workshop is for anyone who wants to write a book, who has ever attempted to write a book but got stuck (and threw the pile of papers into the darkest corner of the den), or who has written a book and wants to know if it’s good enough. Whatever stage of the writing process you’re in, come prepared to write!
