Hosted Payloads refers to the utilisation of available power, mass and space on commercial satellites to accommodate additional space-bound hardware, which affords clients more opportunities for access to space and reach orbit, normally on a more frequent and cost-effective basis than would be required on dedicated flights. As such, the client need not develop or procure his own spacecraft, simplifying projects and ensures that missions which are normally prohibitively expensive are economically viable.

The frequency of commercially hosted payloads provides many opportunities for client payloads to reach orbit. The robust launch pace and the strict schedule requirements of commercial spacecraft programs ensure efficient access to space with reduced occurrences of lengthy delays, which is especially crucial as many government and institutional satellite programmes have experienced schedule delays, cancellations and budgetary challenges. The use of commercially hosted payloads can help to maintain (or in some cases accelerate) programme schedules, fill gaps in operational and proof-of-concept activities and provide a timely and affordable means of accessing space.

This masterclass will be hosted by SES and will provide you with an overview of all aspects all aspects of hosted payloads to allow subsequent hosted project definition and engineering.
