“[Nunnery’s songs] will knock you off your feet as surely as a bolt from the blue aimed straight at the heart,” says Jerome Clark of Rambles.net

And Grant Alden of ‘No Depression’ says, “Her voice has a wild, keening quality. Her songs are bone-shaking. . . .These are ancient, timeless tones. Desperate and free. Not blues, not country, not folk: All of those. Something primal and hand-shaped, and thoroughly sophisticated.”

“Nunnery’s voice is deep and wild, rich, sometimes ghostly. . . The songs are spare and melodic, with strains of gospel, country-blues and honky-tonk.”

Calling all blankets, picnic baskets, and candles! The Riverside Clay Tennis Association is once again hosting its series of sunset concerts on the tennis lawn overlooking the Hudson River at 97th Street.

Each concert begins at 7 p.m. and continues through shades of orange, red and purple, ending around 9 p.m. Bring your picnic basket and blanket and join us. Stick around afterward and watch the fireflies rise up out of the lawn and the stars speckle the sky. In the event of inclement weather, call the hotline, 212-978-0277, to see whether a concert has been postponed.
