On Monday, September 25th at 7:30pm, Reverend Dr. Michael S. Barry will host a seminar to teach a concept too often ignored—the art of forgiveness. Reverend Dr. Barry is the director of pastoral care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America’s Eastern Regional Medical Center, where he provides spiritual guidance for patients battling advanced stage cancers.

In this one-time seminar, Rev. Dr. Barry welcomes people of all faiths to come together to learn the art of forgiveness through a unique three step method. We are taught how to grieve through a series of stages, but traditionally, people have not been taught how to actually forgive. Anger, or the lack of forgiveness, can lead to a myriad of psychological, spiritual and physical health problems. Pent up anger raises blood pressure and decreases the effectiveness of the immune system, disabling the body from fighting illness at its maximum capacity. In his work at CTCA, Barry has seen first hand how the peace that forgiveness brings can aid in cancer patient’s healing process. Rev. Barry will discuss the connection between the physical and spiritual self, and between faith and healing.

Dr. Barry has written two books relating to spirituality and health, A Reason for Hope and A Season for Hope.

Rev. Barry’s seminar will host this extraordinary seminar on September 25 at 7:30pm at the McLean Bible Church in Community Room C.
