WHAT: The City of Carmel’s Days of Remembrance Ceremony 2010 to commemorate the Holocaust. This year’s theme is “Stories of Freedom: What You Do Matters.”
The program will include an interview with Holocaust survivor and Indianapolis resident, Meyer Bronicki, by Marian University Professor and Carmel resident, Dr. Pierre Atlas. Mayor Jim Brainard will read a Civic Proclamation and offer remarks. Rabbi Arnold Bienstock will act as Master of Ceremonies.
The program will also include presentations by 8th grade students at Beth-El Zedeck Sunday School and Jewish Student Union students of Carmel High School as well as a musical performance by soprano Melissa Pesia Cohen.
WHERE: Carmel City Hall Council Chambers, 2nd Floor One Civic Square, Carmel, Indiana.
WHEN: Friday, April 16th at noon. The ceremony will last approximately an hour and a half and will be followed by a light lunch.
WHO: The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The Carmel commemoration is part of Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), an international holiday for remembering the victims of the Holocaust. It reminds us, as Americans, of what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and indifference reign.
