Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony at City Hall



WHAT: The City of Carmel ’s Days of Remembrance Ceremony 2007 to commemorate the Holocaust. This year’s theme is “Children in Crisis: Voices from the Holocaust.”



The program will include a keynote address by Phil Lande, Indianapolis resident and son of a Holocaust survivor. Other guest speakers include Richard Zochowski, Carmel resident and son of a Holocaust survivor and J. Ray Clark, liberator and author of Journey to Hell: The Fiery Furnaces of Buchenwald. Mayor Jim Brainard will read a Civic Proclamation and offer remarks. Rabbi Arnold Bienstock of Congregation Shaarey Tefilla will act as Master of Ceremonies.



The program also includes a musical performance by the 6th grade Cadet Choir from Creekside Middle School and commemorative readings by the Carmel High School Hebrew students. Derek Hakes, musical composer and arranger will perform an original composition on hand bells.

WHEN: Noon on Thursday, April 19, 2007. The ceremony will last approximately an hour and a half and will be followed by a light lunch.



WHO: The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The Carmel commemoration is part of Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), an international holiday for remembering the victims of the Holocaust. It reminds us, as Americans, of what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and indifference reign.
