Kicks off July 1 at 4:00pm and ends on July 18, 2010. Take a walk down memory lane. Walk through the streets of downtown Downers Grove and view the historic photos. Get a glimpse of what life in Downers Grove once was as you shop and dine in the boutiques and restaurants of today. Shop and Dine your way through history! Downers Grove Downtown Management Corporation, The Downers Grove Visitors Bureau, The Downers Grove Park District Historical Museum, The Downers Grove Historical Society, John W. Mochel, and Montrew Dunham have come together to take an in-depth look at how Downtown Downers Grove has evolved. Over 50 downtown businesses will be displaying 60 photos in their windows. Some of the pictures date back as far as the 1800’s.

Learn fun facts such as who the first person was in Downers Grove to own a car, where the stockyard was located in Downtown Downers Grove, the first building to have electricity in Downers Grove, and discover which buildings are still standing today.

In addition to the photo tour, on July 10th between 10am and 12pm, take a tour of the historic Tivoli Theatre. The Tivoli Theatre was the second theatre in the United States to be designed and built for talking pictures. When the Tivoli Theatre opened at 1:30 p.m. Christmas day, 1928, there were more than 4,000 people in the line waiting to see a “talking movie.”
